Tesla has launched the Model Y Long Range RWD in the US

Tesla has just refreshed its most affordable long-range Model Y variant, and the upgrades pack serious punch—without raising the price.

In a low-key but impactful update, Tesla has launched the new Model Y Long Range RWD in the United States, starting at $44,990 (or $37,490 after the federal EV tax credit). While the price remains unchanged, the vehicle itself delivers significant performance and range improvements, making it one of the most compelling electric SUVs in its class.

What’s New in the 2025 Model Y Long Range RWD?

Tesla appears to be rolling out these changes as part of a broader strategy to enhance value without increasing cost—a move that could boost sales amid growing EV competition.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the old vs. new Model Y Long Range RWD:

New Model Y Long Range RWD (2025)

  • Price: $44,990 (or $37,490 with Fed EV credit)

  • EPA Range: 357 miles (↑ ~6%)

  • 0–60 mph: 5.4 seconds

  • Performance Upgrades: Improved acceleration and range, plus other undisclosed enhancements

Previous Model Y Long Range RWD

  • Price: $44,990 ($37,490 with credit)

  • EPA Range: 337 miles

  • 0–60 mph: 6.5 seconds

Why It Matters

With 357 miles of range, the updated Model Y RWD now offers the longest range of any rear-wheel-drive EV in its class. And with a full 1.1-second faster acceleration to 60 mph, the new variant now competes more directly with AWD performance models—at a lower cost.

Tesla has not yet revealed the exact nature of the “other upgrades,” but it's likely these include refinements to the drivetrain and efficiency gains via software or hardware tweaks. The update comes at a time when consumers are demanding better value and automakers are under pressure to deliver more range for less money.
