Lucid has rolled out a new over-the-air update for the Gravity SUV that adds Hands-Free Drive Assist for DreamDrive 2 Pro-equipped vehicles, adaptive high-beam headlights, and Google Maps point-of-interest data built into navigation — plus a couple of charging upgrades for the EV-obsessed.
Lucid is pushing a significant over-the-air update to the Gravity, its three-row electric SUV, adding a hands-free driver-assistance feature along with a batch of smaller quality-of-life upgrades. The update began rolling out to Gravity SUVs in North America starting June 8, 2026, and represents one of the biggest software pushes the vehicle has received since deliveries ramped up.
The headline feature is Hands-Free Drive Assist, available to Gravity SUVs equipped with the DreamDrive 2 Pro hardware package. Under driver supervision, the system can handle steering, braking, and acceleration on compatible divided highways — putting it in the same category as General Motors' Super Cruise or Ford's BlueCruise. The Lucid Air, the company's flagship sedan, gained a version of this capability last year, and the Gravity is now catching up.
The update also brings automated lane-changing. Drivers can initiate a lane change themselves by signaling a turn, or switch on an Automatic Lane Change function and let the system decide when it's best to move around slower traffic. As with any hands-free highway system, Lucid still expects drivers to stay attentive and ready to retake control — these systems are supervised driver-assistance features, not self-driving, and none of them are designed to be used without the driver paying attention to the road.
Beyond the driving features, Lucid is layering Google's place data into the Gravity's built-in navigation system. Called "Destinations by Google" internally, it surfaces business details, customer ratings, photos, and other point-of-interest information directly on the map — the kind of context that's long been standard in Google Maps and Apple Maps on phones but has been inconsistent across in-car navigation systems. Lucid says the update also improves charging station listings specifically, adding real-time availability and more recent imagery for charging locations along a route.
The Gravity also gains adaptive high-beam headlights, known as Adaptive Driving Beam. The system detects oncoming or leading vehicles and selectively dims just the portion of the beam that would otherwise blind those drivers, rather than forcing an all-or-nothing switch between high and low beams. It's available on vehicles equipped with either the DreamDrive Premium or DreamDrive 2 Pro package.
Two smaller but useful additions round out the update for the energy-conscious: Advanced Preconditioning View, which visualizes the Gravity's battery temperature against its ideal charging window, and Predictive Charging Power, which forecasts the peak DC fast-charging speed you can expect based on the vehicle's current state and battery temperature — useful for gauging how long a highway charging stop will actually take before you pull in.
This update lands as Lucid leans further into autonomous driving more broadly. The company is preparing to put Gravity-based robotaxis, running Nuro's self-driving software, onto the Uber app later this year. Lucid has also shown off a concept for a two-seat autonomous pod in the vein of Tesla's Cybercab, and says its upcoming midsize vehicle will eventually be capable of Level 4 self-driving — true eyes-off operation without driver intervention — built around Nvidia's autonomy hardware and software stack.
The Gravity's software has had a rockier road than the hardware. Early reviewers, including outlets that gave the SUV editor's-choice-caliber praise for its packaging and performance, also flagged glitches after 2025 deliveries began — an inconsistent key fob and steering-wheel buttons that sometimes needed multiple presses among them. Lucid says a steady stream of over-the-air updates, including this one, has been aimed at ironing those issues out.
The bottom line: Lucid is using software to close the gap with more established driver-assist systems, and the Gravity now gets a real hands-free highway feature to go with useful navigation and charging upgrades. The catch is the same one buyers always run into with these systems: the marquee feature requires the pricier DreamDrive 2 Pro hardware package, and Lucid isn't yet putting an official number on what that costs — so anyone cross-shopping against Super Cruise or BlueCruise should get a firm price quote before assuming this is the cheaper option.
