Tesla just made the Model Y bigger — and it's now available in the United States. The Model Y Long Wheelbase, officially called the Model Y L, is a three-row, six-seat electric SUV that stretches 7 inches longer than the standard Model Y. It starts at $61,990 for a fully loaded Launch Series trim, with US deliveries beginning in October 2026.

What You Get With the Launch Series

Tesla isn't releasing a bare-bones base trim first. The Launch Series is a fully loaded configuration that includes a remarkable amount of standard equipment — things that typically cost extra on other Tesla models.

Launch Series Inclusions (No Extra Charge)
  • 1 year of FSD (Supervised) — Tesla's full self-driving software, active from delivery
  • 1 year of Supercharging — unlimited free charging at Tesla's network
  • 1 year of Premium Connectivity — live traffic, streaming, and satellite maps
  • Your choice of any exterior paint color — all six options at no upcharge
  • Your choice of any interior color — Black or Zen Gray
  • Your choice of wheel option — 19" or 20"
  • Launch Series exclusives: unique badging, floor mats, puddle lights, suede dash inserts, and sill plates

That's a compelling package. FSD alone retails for $8,000 if purchased outright, and a year of Supercharging adds meaningful real-world value for most owners. Getting your pick of paint with no premium attached — including the new-to-US Cosmic Silver — is a smart way to move early inventory and create urgency around ordering now versus waiting for later, lower-spec trims.

Inside: Three Rows Done Right

The interior is where the Model Y L earns its price premium. Tesla has clearly thought through what makes a three-row EV actually livable, not just technically a three-row vehicle.

The second row gets captain's chairs — not a bench — with electric lifting armrests, heating and ventilation, power-folding backs, and dedicated air vents in the B-pillar. The third row has heated seats with power recline, one-touch folding, dedicated C-pillar air vents, cup holders, and two ceiling LED lights. With all rows up, Tesla says the trunk still fits a 28" and 20" suitcase, while the frunk handles an additional 20" bag.

Second RowCaptain's chairs, heated & ventilated, electric folding, power armrests, B-pillar vents
Third RowHeated, power recline, one-touch fold, cup holders, C-pillar vents, ceiling lights

Total cargo space is 89 cubic feet — slightly less than a Kia EV9 (98 cu ft) but more than the BMW iX3 seven-seater and competitive with the Hyundai Ioniq 9. Second and third row seats fold completely flat when you need the hauling space, and a 12V outlet in the rear trunk handles tailgate power needs.

Six Colors, Including a US Debut

The Model Y L launches in the US with six exterior paint options: Stealth Gray, Diamond Black, Pearl White, Marine Blue, Ultra Red, and Cosmic Silver — the last one making its first US appearance. Two interior colorways are available (Black and Zen Gray), and both wheel sizes (19" and 20") are offered with no range penalty worth worrying about — 5 miles difference between them.

A Few Things to Know Before You Order
  • No PowerShare. The Model Y L has V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) with an adapter included, but does not support bidirectional home charging like the Cybertruck or F-150 Lightning did.
  • Deliveries start in October. Order now, but you won't take delivery until fall. Exact timing within October isn't confirmed yet.
  • Launch Series only for now. Base trims at a lower price haven't been announced yet for the US.

Where It Fits in the Market

The Model Y L slots into a competitive space. At $61,990, it's up against the Rivian R1S, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Kia EV9, and Mercedes EQB — all of which offer three-row configurations at similar or higher prices. But Tesla brings what none of those have in the same package: a 250 kW charging network with over 21,000 US Superchargers, FSD software, and the lowest software-to-hardware ratio of any EV in the segment.

For families who have been waiting for a Tesla with a real third row — not a cramped fold-out — this is the one. The captain's chairs in the second row and the generous headroom in the third make it a legitimate people-mover, not just a cargo van with extra seats bolted in.

"Engineered for safety with seat belts and side air bags optimized for second and third row."

— Tesla, on the Model Y L launch

Bottom line: The Model Y L is exactly what Tesla's lineup was missing — a properly engineered three-row EV from a company that actually has the charging network to back it up. At $61,990 fully loaded with FSD, Supercharging, and free paint, the Launch Series is priced to move. US deliveries start in October. If you're in the market for a 6-seat family EV, this goes to the top of the test-drive list.
