If you order a Tesla Model Y L today, plan on waiting until 2027. Tesla's US configurator now shows estimated delivery dates of January to March 2027 for new Model Y L Launch Series orders, across every configuration. That's later than the January–February window shown just weeks ago. The six-seat, long-wheelbase Model Y has been sold out for the rest of 2026, and the wait keeps getting longer.

Model Y L at a glance
  • Three-row, six-seat long-wheelbase version of the Model Y, built at Giga Texas
  • US orders opened July 2, 2026; first deliveries began in September
  • Launch Series (Premium AWD): $61,990, including one year each of FSD (Supervised), Supercharging and Premium Connectivity, plus free paint, interior and wheel choices
  • EPA range: 332 miles (19-inch wheels) or 328 miles (20-inch wheels)
  • New orders now show January–March 2027 delivery

A Wait That Keeps Getting Longer

The Model Y L's delivery estimates have slipped steadily since launch. Launch-day reservations were scheduled for delivery in September. Orders placed later in July and August moved into October and November. By late September, the Launch Series had sold out for 2026, with new orders showing January–February 2027. Now that window has stretched to January–March 2027, and Tesla's public inventory shows no Model Y L units available for immediate purchase, because every car built is going to an existing order.

Why Demand Is So Strong

The Model Y L fills a gap Tesla has had for years: a true three-row family hauler that costs less than the Model X. It adds a third row with six seats, including second-row captain's chairs, on the platform of the best-selling Model Y. And it does that without giving up much range. Its official EPA rating of 332 miles came in higher than Tesla's own estimate, and the 20-inch-wheel version now out-ranges the standard Model Y Premium AWD on 19-inch wheels.

The Launch Series bundle also helps. At $61,990, it comes with a year of FSD (Supervised), Supercharging and Premium Connectivity, plus free paint, interior and wheels, perks that add up to thousands of dollars in value. (See our full launch coverage for every spec.)

What It Means for Tesla

A months-long backlog is a good sign at a time when much of the EV market is struggling. Ford's US EV sales fell 80% in Q3 and GM's dropped more than 60% after the federal tax credit expired, yet Tesla is selling a $62,000 SUV faster than it can build it. The standard Model Y is also showing waits into December 2026 and January 2027 for some trims. Long lead times like this give Tesla steady orders heading into 2027 and suggest it can hold prices rather than cut them.

The other side
  • Long wait times reflect both demand and how fast Tesla can build the Model Y L at Giga Texas. A slow production ramp can stretch delivery dates too
  • Tesla doesn't report Model Y L orders or production numbers separately, so the exact size of the backlog isn't known
  • Delivery estimates are estimates. They can move earlier or later as Tesla adjusts production

Thinking About Ordering? What to Know

  • Expect a 2027 delivery: New orders today show January–March 2027, for every configuration
  • Launch Series perks: If you want the bundled FSD, Supercharging and free options, check that they're still included when you order, since Launch Series terms can change
  • Need something sooner? The standard five-seat Model Y has shorter waits, and existing Model Y inventory may be available right away
  • Watch your Tesla app: Delivery windows can update after you order, sometimes earlier if production picks up
