BYD's biggest, most luxurious electric sedan is officially on sale in China, and it got cheaper at launch. The BYD Da Han EV (also called the Great Han) launched on October 13 at 235,900 yuan, about $35,200. That's 14,000 yuan below the pre-sale price BYD announced in August. For that money you get a sedan longer than a Tesla Model S, up to 1,008 km (626 miles) of CLTC range, and Flash Charging that takes the battery from 10% to 97% in about nine minutes.

BYD Da Han EV at a glance
  • Officially launched October 13, 2026, in China, after pre-sales opened in August at the Chengdu Auto Show
  • Three trims, all with lidar, priced from 235,900 to 275,900 yuan ($35,200–$41,200)
  • Launch prices are 14,000 to 24,000 yuan lower than pre-sale prices
  • 102.3 kWh second-generation Blade Battery
  • Up to 570 kW (764 hp) and 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds (AWD)
  • A drag coefficient of 0.197, one of the lowest of any production car

Final Prices: Cheaper Than Promised

When BYD opened pre-orders in August (see our Chengdu coverage), the Da Han started at 249,900 yuan. At launch, every trim came down in price, and the more expensive trims came down the most.

Cutting prices on launch day, after people have already placed orders, is a common move in China's brutally competitive EV market. Rivals like Xiaomi and Zeekr have pushed prices down so hard that BYD clearly decided starting lower was worth more than protecting its pre-sale margins.

Nine-Minute Charging and a 1,008 km Range

The Da Han uses BYD's second-generation Blade Battery, a 102.3 kWh LFP pack. On BYD's Flash Charging network, it goes from 10% to 97% in about nine minutes, and from 10% to 70% in about five. Electrek reports the Flash Charging system runs at up to 1,500 kW. It's the same charging technology BYD just brought to Europe on the Atto 8 SUV.

The range comes from that big battery and a remarkably slippery body. A drag coefficient of 0.197 puts the Da Han among the most aerodynamic production cars ever made, below the Tesla Model S and right around the Lucid Air and Mercedes EQS.

About that 626-mile number
  • CLTC is China's test cycle, and it's the most generous range test in the world
  • CLTC figures typically come out about 25–35% higher than EPA ratings
  • A rough US-style EPA estimate for the RWD would be around 420–470 miles (our estimate, not a BYD figure). That's still more than almost any EV sold in America
  • Nine-minute charging only works at BYD's own Flash Charging stations

A Full-Size Luxury Sedan for Model 3 Money

At 5,256 mm (207 in) long with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Da Han is longer than a Tesla Model S and a Lucid Air, and closer in size to a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class. Every Da Han comes standard with:

  • DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension that scans the road ahead, plus a "crab walk" mode
  • Rear-wheel steering, for a tight 4.95-meter turning circle
  • BYD's God's Eye driver-assistance system, with lidar on every trim
  • A 40-inch augmented-reality head-up display and a 17.3-inch floating center screen
  • A 31-speaker Devialet sound system
  • Nappa leather, zero-gravity front seats, and heating, ventilation and 10-point massage in both rows

That's less than even the cheapest Tesla Model 3 costs in the US. In China, $35,200 now buys a sedan with S-Class proportions, air suspension, lidar and charging that's faster than any Supercharger. That gap is why US and European automakers are so worried about Chinese EVs.

Can You Buy a BYD Da Han in the US?

No. BYD doesn't sell passenger cars in the United States, and tariffs on Chinese-built EVs make the Da Han's $35,200 price impossible to match here. The Da Han hasn't been confirmed for Europe either. It's worth watching anyway, because it shows what's possible: a premium electric sedan with more than 600 miles of rated range and nine-minute charging, sold at a mainstream price.

BYD Da Han EV FAQ

How much does the BYD Da Han cost?
It starts at 235,900 yuan (about $35,200) in China. The top AWD trim is 275,900 yuan (about $41,200).

What is the BYD Da Han's range?
Up to 1,008 km (626 miles) on China's CLTC cycle for the RWD models, and 880 km (547 miles) for the AWD. Expect much lower numbers on the US EPA test.

How fast does the BYD Da Han charge?
10% to 97% in about nine minutes on BYD's Flash Charging stations.

Is the Da Han the same as the BYD Han?
No. The Da Han (Great Han) is a larger, more premium flagship that sits above the regular Han in BYD's Dynasty lineup.

Is the BYD Da Han sold in the US?
No. BYD doesn't sell passenger vehicles in the United States.

The bottom line: BYD showed the Da Han in August and then lowered the price at launch. Now it's a full-size luxury EV with best-in-class aerodynamics, lidar, air suspension and nine-minute charging, starting at about $35,000. Real-world range will be lower than 626 miles, and Americans can't buy one. But it sets a new benchmark that every other luxury EV, including the Model S, Lucid Air and EQS, now gets compared against.
